OCHF at Parson's Family Farm
Parsons Family Farm is a family-run operation co-owned by John and Amanda Peters, Mike and Stefani Parsons, and Dylan Parsons, whose mission is to serve the community by providing agricultural goods and a space for social events, while preserving and enhancing the ecosystem services of their 20 acres of farmland and forest. 7 acres of forest are protected through a conservation easement with Capitol Land Trust. Several acres are devoted to hops and lavender production for local sale and an old apple orchard has been brought back into production and expanded with new trees. Parsons Family Farm and Our Common Home Farms of Saint Martin’s University worked together to build a large kitchen garden that provides a broad range of produce and are currently designing and implementing a food forest on the corner of 37th and Wiggins Road that will include fruit and nut trees, berry plants, and other perennial crops consistent with practices of ecologically intense farming. The owners of Parsons Family Farms believe that their operation can serve as a teaching model for other small farmers and developers seeking to preserve and enhance ecosystem services.
